Philip Freeman is a veteran journalist and editor with credits in newspapers, magazines, and websites including the L.A. Times, the Village Voice, Down Beat, MSN Entertainment, The Wire (UK), Jazziz, Alternative Press, and many more.

He is the author of New York Is Now: The New Wave of Free Jazz (The Telegraph Company, 2001) and Running The Voodoo Down: The Electric Music of Miles Davis (Backbeat Books, 2005), and edited the anthology Marooned: The Next Generation of Desert Island Discs (Da Capo Press, 2007). He is the former managing editor of Global Rhythm and the former editor-in-chief of Metal Edge, and runs his own arts and culture website, Burning Ambulance.
