Wendy started her publishing career at HarperCollins, where she worked with New York Times bestselling authors and debut novelists. Then, at Lantern Books, an independent press in Brooklyn, she edited nonfiction by spiritual leaders and a variety of inspirational memoirs, including one by a MacArthur Genius Grant winner. No matter the genre, she is especially interested in stories that reflect a diverse background.
In addition to being an editor, Wendy is the author of the novels The Art of Confidence (Kensington Books, 2016), Across a Green Ocean (Kensington Books, 2015), and Happy Family(Grove Atlantic, 2008). Happy Family was named one of the top 10 debut novels of the year by Booklist and awarded an honorable mention from the Association of Asian American Studies. She has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and the Corporation of Yaddo for her fiction.
Wendy’s passion for education has led her to teach English in China and classes at the Asian American Writers Workshop. She has also mentored NYC high school students with the nonprofit Girls Write Now, and tutored under-resourced students in Los Angeles with 826LA.
