Anna started her career in publishing in 2014 after receiving first class honours in her American and English Literature degree at the University of East Anglia. Since then, she’s worked with many different publishing hats on, building a dynamic freelance career helping people write their books, make the best decisions for their work and launch them into the world. Anna is delighted to be working to provide the best possible retreat experience for our clients. From the moment they book their place, Anna will be on hand to answer questions, coordinate their entire experience and make sure that the retreat is as productive and enlightening as possible.
Anna’s roles in publishing have ranged from marketing to events to editorial and foreign rights for independent houses Myriad Editions and RedDoor Press. She has also worked for renowned literary scouts Heather Schiller and Sylvie Zannier reporting and recommending manuscripts for a diverse list of foreign clients. In 2018, she founded a much-loved writing group in Brighton, and the West Hill Writers have been meeting to support each other ever since. Anna produces a radio show for independent station Radio Reverb called The Brighton Book Club, offering a platform for writers in Brighton and the surrounding areas.
In 2020, Anna began working for writing consultancy Jericho Writers as Head of Events. In her time there, she programmed and produced hundreds of online events and courses and directed the world’s biggest online festival of writing in 2020, reaching over 2000 writers during the pandemic. Since then, she produced over 500 online events for Jericho Writers as well as several flagship Festivals of Writing in York and London respectively, welcoming over 800 writers and 60 tutors. After handing over the baton at Jericho Writers, Anna stayed on as a freelance reviewer of query letters, advising Jericho Writers members how to strengthen their pitches to get the attention of agents.
Anna has run many sell-out writing retreats ranging from day-long retreats in her hometown of Brighton, to several week-long retreats in Mallorca, Spain, where she currently lives.
Anna is part of the production team at The Coast is Queer Festival – the UK’s biggest and brightest LGBTQ+ literature Festival. Her work heading up the comms department helped the festival grow by 50% from 2023 to 2024. As a freelance consultant, Anna has helped many people set up writing groups, self-publish their books, get a literary agent, and deliver engaging marketing campaigns. She is a guest lecturer on West Dean College’s MA in creative writing and publishing.
Anna is a proud trustee of literary development agency, New Writing South, a non-profit organisation working to inspire both writers and readers to take risks and find joy in writing and literature with an emphasis on championing underrepresented voices that are too often excluded by the literary and publishing world and to challenge the barriers that many of these writers face in making and sharing their work.
