Education: Hendrix College, BA; University of Tennessee, MA

George earned his bachelor’s in English at Hendrix College and his master’s at the University of Tennessee, where he taught writing, literature, and film courses. He was a technical editor for Martin Marietta and later Lockheed Martin in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, before becoming a copyeditor for Louisiana State University Press, where he edited hundreds of books, including scholarly studies in literature, history, sociology, philosophy, anthropology, and archaeology, and many other subjects; photography books; memoirs; literary anthologies; and poetry collections including the Pulitzer Prize–winning collection Late Wife, by Claudia Emerson. In recent years he has edited on a freelance basis for other major university presses including the University of Chicago Press and Johns Hopkins University Press.
